Doing this Portable Studio portrait, I wanted to have a more interesting subject instead of just a basic person standing in the frame. I thought that taking photos of the CMU Police Department could be interesting for this project. I actually enjoyed my time doing this project with the police department, however I did get a bit concerned about the fact that they said the photos couldn’t be anywhere public. Setting up the backdrop and lighting was a bit difficult given the amount of space that we had to do it in. At first, my lighting was not bright enough and I did struggle a bit to get it just right. The reason I think that I struggled a decent amount was because we rented a black backdrop and the uniforms were a very very dark blue or black which needed the perfect lighting in order to look good against the black background. However, once I got it to work, I was very satisfied with the results and only needed to crop them in. I did struggle when I tried to do full body shots, in the photos it kind of seems like their legs just disappear into the abyss. But I am still satisfied with how everything turned out.
